Overview

Gobowen is a charming village in Shropshire, located about halfway between the towns of Shrewsbury and Oswestry. Founded in the 11th century, and taking its name from an old Welsh word meaning "hill of cows." Gobowen is home to a few notable landmarks, including the 12th-century St. Mary's Church and the 17th-century Gobowen Hall.

Gobowen station, in the village centre, was opened in 1849 and has been granted Grade II listed building status thanks to its beautiful architectural detailing. Designed in the Italianate style, complete with a small turret and white stucco facing, the actual station building is now a private home, although the station still provides a regular service.

Served by Virgin Trains, the westbound trains run to London Euston and Crewe and eastward routes between Holyhead, Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street.

The station has a small car park and two platforms, each of which is long enough for two trains. There is no ticket office or waiting room, but there are shelters on both platforms. step-free access is available to both platforms from the street.
