Llanelli is the largest town in Carmarthenshire, and rests peacefully on the scenic River Lliedi. Known for its rugby tradition, Llanelli has developed over the centuries from an Iron Age fort, to a vibrant, town that’s quintessentially Welsh. One of its most popular spots is the Millennium Coastal Park, which spans 13 miles of coastline, offering spectacular views that range from the Loughor Estuary all the way to the stunningly beautiful Gower Peninsula. With one of the country’s finest cycle trails, take your bike on the train to experience it to the fullest. 

The WWT Llanelli Wetlands Centre is a great place for some exceptional birdwatching. It covers 500 acres of wetlands and sees more than 60,000 birds return to its waters for the winter. Egrets, avocets, and even spoonbills congregate on the large stretches of undisturbed water, whilst owls, peregrines and buzzards hunt in the long grass.  

Visit the Parc Howard Museum to learn the history of the region. This glorious 19th-century Italianate villa sits in beautifully designed and manicured parkland, and is well worth seeing.
