With a history of habitation dating back to the 11th century, the Croes Siencyn Incised Stone marks the skills of those ancient stonemasons. Moved from its original location of somewhere between Pyle and Kenfig, to Marlas Road, it has been given Scheduled Monument status, acknowledging its historic importance.
If you need to tire out energetic kids, Dizzy’s Castle offers an exhausting range of indoor soft play activities. In a safe environment, children can run, jump and climb until their heart’s content, while you relax in the comfortable, welcoming coffee shop.
Looking out over Pyle is St James' parish church is often called the upside down church. This refers to a 15th century event when the village was overwhelmed by a sandbank as the sea encroached. The church was moved, stone by stone to a new, safer location. The first stones moved from the original site would be the ones placed higher in the building, and therefore the church was rebuilt upside down! A fine example of classic Perpendicular style, it demonstrates the large, wide spaced windows the period is known for
A beautiful area of woodland called The Collwyn lies to the west of the village. Perfect for a relaxing stroll, or maybe a midweek picnic, the flora and fauna alone make this location well worth a visit. Follow the winding stream to the well preserved watermill and step back in time.
If you’re a fan of retail therapy, Pyle has all the high street names, and is also home to several independent boutiques showcasing local artistic talent. From cosy knitwear, painting of the local scenery, and home made jewellery, to homemade cakes and pastries. Why not treat yourself for the journey home?
