Site of many scenes from the hugely popular TV show, Gavin and Stacey, the Pleasure Park is a great place to head for. Featuring over 17 fabulous rides and attractions ranging from gentle waltzers to extreme, heart-stopping thrills, the whole family will love the seaside atmosphere. From the top of the Big Wheel, the views are stunning - on one side the vast Bristol Channel, whilst the other takes your eye over Barry and to the rich, green hills beyond. Nearby, the golden sands of Whitmore Bay stretch invitingly and are the perfect spot to enjoy delicious locally caught fish and chips.
For something a little different, Smuggler’s Cove Adventure Golf, with its pirate-themed obstacles offers a real escape from the daily grind. Concentrating on getting the golf ball past Long John Silver and his parrot, or around the Jolly Roger is the perfect antidote.
The fortified medieval castle in the nearby village of Fonman offers a huge variety of attractions in one. Enjoy the peaceful wild nature trails through the lush Welsh countryside, but watch out for the roaming dinosaurs - you never know where one will be hiding. It could be in the medieval farmyard, near the Norman keep … or … behind you! This is a great day out for families, with kids loving the excitement of hunting the real dino (models).
Barry is renowned for its wealth of independent boutiques, and this is the place to come if you’re after an unusual gift or a little treat for yourself. Showcasing local talent, from hand crafted silver to chunky colourful knits, the windows are full of beautiful trinkets and treasures. Why not pick up some homemade shortbread or fudge to enjoy on the train ride home?
